Upgrading the energy of Jefferson Lab's CEBAF #accelerator facility from 12 to 22GeV requires more circulations around the machine, and one option is to put multiple electron energies in the same pipe.   The animation below shows the sizes of six different energy beams as they are matched from the linac to the arc section: the same set of magnets has to make all six the correct size at once!   This was a difficult optimisation problem.  #physics <p><video src='posts/202604/post-20260430-191947-a.mp4' loading='lazy' preload='metadata' controls></video></p>
