It's small (70nA) but I got first beam out of the electron gun in my ion trap experiment.  It's the dim green spot that shows up on the near screen, or the line on the far screen, where I steered it using the gun's built-in electrodes but it also changed the shape!  There's also a photo with flash to show the screens.  #physics #accelerators

They said to wait for better vacuum levels before increasing the current.

The Webb #space #telescope can't look at Mercury, Venus, Earth or the Moon because they're always on the Sunward side of it.  It also can't look at the Sun obviously.

Part of this weekend's data acquisition involved me hitting a key as close as possible in time to the RHIC injector complex's 4.2sec or 6.0sec cycle.  No time to implement a trigger for the cameras!  But at least it captured four consecutive pulses using the laptop's clock timing.

Today we put 70-250MeV protons through a non-scaling fixed-field beamline, the highest energy ever for this sort of beamline!  It bends by 22.5° using 1.85 Tesla permanent magnets.  Here is the 250MeV beam leaving at the largest radius (right of screen).  #accelerators #physics

Tried ungrouping the icons on the taskbar and restoring the labels (like in Windows 95!) There's enough space with 2560px width and many of these are tabbed in themselves, so it doesn't overpopulate as much.

Today I was capturing images from a camera over ethernet.  Had an SDK with examples but my Windows Python installation was so messed up that using the C API was easier.
